Ersta Penthouse — AML Studios

Plank flooring in natural oak
At the top of Södermalm’s newest addition, where the city meets the water, the penthouse is shaped as a calm and carefully composed whole. Here, materials are allowed to speak at their own pace—honest, tactile, and enduring—where every choice carries clear intention. A solid Chevron wooden floor runs throughout the rooms, introducing a soft rhythm underfoot while naturally tying the spaces together with a sense of continuity.
The selected plank flooring acts as a quiet foundation across the home. With its natural tone and living grain, it connects the different expressions of each room, allowing transitions to unfold without abrupt contrasts. The grain and tonal variations add a subtle movement that interacts with the light, enhancing a sense of warmth and presence.
Light and views are present in every room, as an integral part of the architecture. The social spaces open toward Saltsjön, where water and sky are in constant change, dissolving the boundary between inside and out. The more private areas turn toward Södermalm, where the pace is slower and the perspective more rooted in the everyday life and history of the neighborhood.

On Erstagatan, the building takes shape through a careful balance between past and present. The architecture responds quietly to its surroundings while introducing a contemporary clarity. The project comprises 25 residences, defined by thoughtful material choices, generous daylight, and proportions that emphasize longevity over the temporary. The design is developed by AML Studios on behalf of Wallin Bostad.
At the very top, the penthouse spans 190 square meters, with a private terrace of 150 square meters opening toward both city and water. Sustainability has been a natural starting point throughout the entire process, where every decision—from technical systems to materials and detailing—has been made with care. The ambition has been to create something that endures over time, both in expression and function.
